Sleep Duration And Weight Gain

Bila tanya dekat org apa punca masalah kegemukan..sure ramai yg akan cakap makan berlebihan n kurang senaman.Almost 90% people yg akan jawab mcm tu.
However, there are studies which show people too little sleep have high risk weight gain.
The key contributing factors are the hormones called 'leptin' and 'ghrelin'.

Leptin is a protein hormone released from fat tissue and sends signals to the brain that affects regulating body weight and metabolism.if body fat increases, the amount of leptin secreted will increase.During your sleep,as leptin levels increase,it sends a signal to your brain that you have plenty of energy so there's no triggering of hunger or the need to burn calories. But when you don't actually need food at that time. Then it will take steps steps to store the calories you eat as fat so you'll have enough energy the next time you need it.The decrease in leptin brought on by sleep deprivation can result in a constant feeling of hunger and a general slow-down of your metabolism.

The other key hormone,'ghrelin',is secreted by the stomach when you are hungry and enhances your appetite. The purpose of ghrelin is basically the exact opposite of leptin. It tells your brain when you need to eat, when it should stop burning calories and when it should store energy as fat.People who don't sleep enough end up with too much of ghrelin in their system,so the body thinks its hungry and it needs more calories, and it stops burning those calories because it thinks there's a shortage.
